Deepal electric cars
Changan's standalone new-energy-vehicle brand, Italian-designed and Inchcape-distributed, entering Australia in November 2024 with the S07 mid-size electric SUV.
Deepal traces to a 2018 internal Changan project (Chongqing Changan New Energy Automobile Technology) and was launched as an independent Changan brand in 2022, part of Changan Automobile's broader new-energy-vehicle push (Changan itself dates to 1862 as a Qing-dynasty engineering works, later a military supplier and, from 1984, a civilian carmaker). The S07 — Deepal's first Australian model — launched 8 November 2024 through Inchcape, Subaru's long-standing local importer.
The S07 is sold in Australia exclusively as a single-motor rear-wheel-drive battery-electric SUV: 160kW/320Nm, a 7.9s 0-100km/h claim, a 79.97kWh battery giving 475km WLTP range, and 11kW AC/92kW DC charging (30-80% in about 35 minutes). Launched at $53,900 before on-road costs, it has since run repeated drive-away promotions (e.g. $47,990-$49,990 drive-away). Turin-designed styling and a 5-star ANCAP rating are central to Deepal's premium-leaning pitch, backed by a 7-year/160,000km vehicle and 8-year/240,000km battery warranty.
