Renault electric cars

Tier 2FR

A long-established French mainstream brand, now Ateco-distributed rather than factory-owned in Australia, with a single battery-electric model — the Megane E-Tech hatch, its first electric Renault sold locally.

Renault was founded in 1899 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France. It first sold cars in Australia as early as 1903, returned via importing in the 1950s, and locally assembled models (the 10, 12 and 16) at Heidelberg, Victoria from 1966 to 1981. A factory-backed revival began in 2001 with roughly 60 dealers; Renault Australia then relinquished its factory status on 1 April 2021, folding into the independent Ateco Group under a public 'turnaround plan'.

The Megane E-Tech, launched in Australia on 3 May 2024, is the first electric Renault sold locally — initially a single EV60 Techno variant with a 60kWh usable battery, 454km WLTP range, a 160kW/300Nm front motor and 7.4s 0-100km/h. Standard pricing sits at $54,990 before on-road costs, though Renault has repeatedly run steep limited-time drive-away offers (as low as $49,990 drive-away, April-June 2026) to move stock — a pattern consistent with a brand repositioning under its post-factory Ateco ownership.

mainstream European, single-model EV entrant, heavily promotion-driven pricing

Battery-electric: Megane E-Tech hatch/crossover (EV60 Techno) — Renault's only electric model in the current Australian range.
