Ford electric cars

Tier 1US

A century-old American mainstream brand in Australia, now importing its EVs after ending 88 years of local manufacturing in 2016 — leading with a commercial van before its first passenger BEV.

Ford Motor Company was founded in the US in 1903. Its Australian operation, Ford Motor Company of Australia, was established in 1925 as an outpost of Ford of Canada, with the first Australian assembly plant opening at Geelong, Victoria, in July 1925. Ford ended 88 years of local vehicle manufacturing when its Broadmeadows plant closed in October 2016; the brand has been fully import-based in Australia since.

Ford's Australian electrification began with the commercial E-Transit van, arriving from January 2023 — the brand's first fully electric vehicle in the local market — followed by the Mustang Mach-E electric SUV, Ford's first passenger EV in Australia, with deliveries starting December 2023. The E-Transit Custom light-commercial BEV followed in 2024. Mach-E sales have been modest locally (389 units across the first ten months of 2025, down from 612 units the prior year), and the model was subject to a temporary Australian stop-sale tied to global recalls, though Ford has confirmed continued production and local availability.
