Genesis electric cars
Hyundai Motor Group's luxury division, launched in Australia in 2019 via a dealer-free direct-sales "Studio" model, offering a full electric trio (GV60, Electrified G80, Electrified GV70) since 2022.
Genesis began as Hyundai's luxury sub-brand (first model the 2007 Genesis sedan) before being spun off as an independent global brand on 4 November 2015. It entered Australia in 2019 with a distinctive dealer-free strategy — selling online and through factory-owned "Genesis Studio" showrooms, starting with Sydney's Pitt Street Mall — rather than a conventional dealer network. In 2025, Hyundai Motor Company Australia's CEO signalled a shift of Genesis toward more traditional dealer representation.
Genesis launched a full electric trio in Australia in 2022: the dedicated E-GMP-platform GV60 SUV (Genesis's first EV-native model), plus the Electrified G80 sedan and Electrified GV70 SUV (electric versions of existing ICE models). The GV60 was repositioned in 2025/2026 with a new, more affordable base grade (from $88,300 before on-road costs, down from $103,384–$110,384) deliberately priced under the $91,387 Luxury Car Tax "fuel-efficient vehicle" threshold, alongside a new dual-motor GV60 Magma performance variant (448kW). The Electrified GV70 offers up to 462km of range with a Boost Mode to 360kW; the Electrified G80's fourth-generation 94.5kWh battery extends range to 570km.
