BMW electric cars

Tier 1DE

A German premium/performance brand marketing its EVs under the BMW i banner, from compact SUVs to the electric 7 Series flagship.

BMW traces its founding to 7 March 1916 in Munich (as Bayerische Flugzeug-Werke, an aircraft-engine maker that became Bayerische Motoren Werke). BMW Australia Ltd has operated as a wholly owned subsidiary with a Melbourne national headquarters since 1979, covering the BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad brands.

BMW markets its electric and plug-in hybrid models under the BMW i sub-brand, launching in Australia with the i3 hatch in November 2014 and expanding to the i4, i5, i7, iX1, iX2, iX3 and iX. It is now transitioning to the Neue Klasse dedicated EV platform (from 2026), targeting 40-plus electrified models by 2027 and roughly half of global deliveries fully electric by 2030, alongside continuing PHEV variants across its combustion range.

Battery-electric BMW i range: iX1 and iX2 compact SUVs, iX3 mid-size SUV, iX flagship SUV, i4 Gran Coupe, i5 sedan/Touring and i7 luxury sedan. Plug-in hybrid variants are sold across several combustion model lines.
